Esophageal Cancer Prognosis Based on the Stages
Esophageal cancer prognosis can be differentiated based on the stages. You should be sure that you have checked yourself up once you have found abnormalities. First, you have to know the location of esophagus. It is actually the one of digestive parts. Located in the chest for about 10” in length, esophagus is the part for the food to move from your mouth to your stomach. Esophageal Cancer Prognosis: the Types
You should know that there are two types of esophageal cancer. In fact, both of them can be detected and treated in the same way in esophageal cancer prognosis. What makes them different is how they look when the specialist look the cells under the microscope. The first one is adenocarcinoma. In some countries, like USA, it is the most common type of esophageal cancer. It is the cancerous cells attacking low part of esophagus. The second one is squamous cancerous cells. It is the cancerous cells attacking the upper part of esophagus.
Esophageal Cancer Prognosis: the Staging
Esophageal cancer prognosis by stages is important for you to know since it is useful to detect the cancer in very early stage. In stage 0, there are excessive cells that are abnormal found in the inner part of esophagus. In stage 1, those excessive cells that are cancerous have spread to the submucosa layer. In stage 2, the cancerous cells have also spread to lymph nodes, or in layer of muscle, or in the layer of outer esophagus. Esophageal cancer prognosis can be detected in each stage.
In stage 3, esophageal cancer prognosis is; the cancerous cells have spread and grown to lymph nodes and even outer part of esophagus. They can also attack the near organs or structures, like airways. In the last stage, esophageal cancer prognosis stage 4 includes the cancerous cells that have spread to the far organs, like liver.
When it comes to the treatment, for stage 0-2, it may be possible for the patients to have surgery to completely remove the cancerous cells. Before they are metastasized, they can be completely removed. However, in stage 3, radiation is the best treatment, while for last stage; chemotherapy can be the option in esophageal cancer prognosis.
